Rick Q. Ngo, MD, FACS


A native of Houston and 1994 graduate of Rice University, Dr. Ngo has been in private practice General Surgery in Greater Houston since 2003 and with Southwest Surgical Associates since 2010. Dr. Ngo is Board Certified with the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His mission and duty is to provide his patients caring, compassionate, and state-of-the-art surgical care. Specializing in minimally invasive hernia and gallbladder surgery, Dr. Ngo has become a recognized expert in laparoscopic inguinal/umbilical/ventral hernia repairs and laparoscopic gallbladder removals. He served as a consultant at Medtronic’s 2015 Instrumentation Technology Summit and was recently invited to serve as a panelist at the Americas Hernia Society’s 2016 Annual Meeting. 


Dr. Ngo currently is involved with several professional committees including being Chair of the Memorial Hermann Physician Network (MHMD) Clinical Programs Committee Supply Chain Task Force and serving on the Community Health Choice Medical Care Management Committee.


Dr. Ngo also uses his surgical skills to serve others on a voluntary basis by engaging in surgical mission programs through Gateway to Care’s Texas Gulf Coast Access Project and Faith In Practice.  He is quite active in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the American Cancer Society High Plains Division, Faith In Practice, YMCA Greater Houston, and YMCA Greater Houston International Services.


He has been the recipient of several prestigious professional and community honors including being named a Texas Monthly Super Doctor from 2013-15, garnering the Gateway to Care Health Champion Award in 2014, and being nominated for the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center Physician of the Year Award in 2007 and 2008.  In 2014, he was named the YMCA Greater Houston International Services Volunteer of the Year and was recognized by the American Cancer Society Gulf Coast Region in 2010 as an Outstanding Community Volunteer.


When not caring for his patients or volunteering in the community, Dr. Ngo spends time with his family and enjoys golf, tennis, and traveling.


Dr. Ngo is also fluent in Spanish and Vietnamese.
